Amid the island of Brač, a group of women live in an unlikely community. They do not believe in private property or hierarchy, govern the community by direct democracy, and engage in ecological farming. Each member of the commune has escaped her past life, and together they are trying to build their small self-sustaining oasis. However, when the issue of registering ownership in the land register arises, the very survival of the community is at risk. This intriguing, non-touristic story from Brač shatters prejudices about “esoteric hippie communes” and reveals all the effort and difficulties it takes live in such a community. It invites us to imagine, following the protagonists’ lead, different possibilities of communal living, ways of constructing space and time, and the distribution of money and labor.

“I have always been intrigued by women who are in some way marginalized, underprivileged, those whose daily struggles and work are invisible, those who show initiative in various ways and who fight for their ideas. I believe that the strength and subversiveness of society lies in them.”
