
As it appears divided and in retreat, the left thinks it has found a winning strategy: fight the extreme right, oppose anything it advocates, support everything it opposes. But this may require striking alliances with mainstream liberals and conservatives. On which terms? For whose benefits? And should it be done even if it also means ceding the anti-Establishment card to the extreme right?
