Édouard Louis comes from a poor family in the northwest of France. However, less than a decade after publishing his debut novel, The End of Eddy, he has become one of the leading figures on the French literary scene. The transformation of a boy from a working-class background into a privileged Parisian intellectual with significant cultural capital is one of the central topics of this biographical documentary. Louis lays bare his personal life and takes us to places we have already encountered in his autobiographical prose, which reveals class and sexual violence, masterfully blending the personal and the political. He introduces us to the landscape of his youth and the act of writing, which, for him, is primarily a way of crossing boundaries.

François Caillat (1951) is a French director. He studied and later taught philosophy. He has been making essayistic, often personal documentary films for television and cinema for over twenty years, primarily focusing on the subject of representation of the past. He has also authored several documentary portraits of influential intellectuals.
